The modular Archibald Sofa System features a load-bearing structure in birch plywood with a steel frame, while the padding of the backrest and armrests is made of polyurethane foam and polyester wadding. The upholstery is available in Pelle Frau® leather or in removable fabric, enhanced with stitching along the edges and across the surface. A lower frame upholstered in Pelle Frau® leather finishes the base perimeter. The Poltrona Frau® logo is heat-embossed on a leather tag sewn onto the back of the backrests. The feet can be in solid ash wood or cast zamak, both available in various finishes. The Archibald Sofa System seating elements, available in different sizes, can be combined into highly versatile linear or corner configurations, to be freely arranged and rearranged to meet changing living needs. The configurations can be further enhanced with coffee tables such as the Baldwin, part of the Ceccotti Collezioni catalog, designed to perfectly complement the soft curves of the sofa.
Starting from the original idea of the Archibald armchair, designer Jean-Marie Massaud develops the Archibald Sofa System, an advanced system of upholstered seating with more generous volumes and organic shapes, featuring modularity designed to adapt to contemporary living. The taut surfaces contrast with the rounded volumes and inviting padding. The elegant stitching enhances the product and preserves the project’s recognizable signature, while the feet are hidden behind the sofa’s frame, making it appear slightly suspended in the air.

Meet The Designer
Jean-Marie Massaud
Born in Toulouse in 1966, Jean-Marie Massaud graduated in 1990 from Les Ateliers, Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle, Paris. He began to work both in Asia and in France, finally opening his own office in Paris in 1994. Since then, he has dedicated himself to industrial and furniture design, building important relationships with brands such as Authentics, Baccarat and Magis.
His collaboration with Marc Berthier and his work in the field of town planning led him towards design and architecture. He is concerned with design in various contexts, industrial products and furniture. His contextual approach centres on research into the essential, within which the individual remains the centre of attention. It is a work upheld by research into the senses, magic, and vital emotion which brings him to work with very different brands: Cassina, Poltrona Frau, Cappellini, Cacharel, Lancôme, Tronconi and Yamaha offshore.
His works have been awarded several prizes and many of his designs are nowadays on show in the design collections of major museums worldwide: from Amsterdam, Chicago, London, Paris and Zurich: from the permanent collection of the Musée National d'Art Moderne de Paris to the permanent collections of the Museum für Gestaltung, Zürich, of The Chicago Athenaeum- Museum of Architecture and Design, of The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam and of The Musée des arts Décoratifs, Paris.

The Pelle Frau® leather tanning processes are exclusively combined with chrome treatments, which guarantee greater chemical and biological stability, to preserve the softness and flexibility of the leathers. Selected and produced by the finest quality Italian tanneries, Pelle Frau® leather is only “admitted” to the production process after it has passed a series of tests in the Poltrona Frau laboratories: from sensory tests to evaluate its hand, touch, colour, appearance and choice, to physical and mechanical tests that guarantee its impermeability, breathability and resistance to rubbing and stains.
